He was predeceased by : his parents, Fred Nelson and Betty Nelson (Griffin); his wife Melissa Janise; his granddaughter Matika; and his sister Sheila Nelson.

He is survived by : his children, Moses Schumacher of Sioux City, Josh Nelson of Eddyville, Nate Nelson (Beth) of Eddyville and Cassandra Goodwin (Larry) of Austin, MN; his grandchildren, Richard, Joshua Jr., Andrea, Freddie, Nichole, Abby, Anna, Tanisha, Ayanna (Matika), Elektra and Larry III (Bubba); and his sister Linda of Des Moines.
