He was predeceased by: his parents, Burnell Eugene and Emily Irene Hines (Butters). He is survived by: his wife Sarah Hines; his children, Brian Hines of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer Hines (Todd Willard) of Anamosa and Robert Hines of Oxford Junction; and his siblings, Marlis Benedict of Cedar Rapids, Nancy Hines of Marion, Nadene Reece of Urbana, Debbie Wright (Chad) of Marion and Dean Hines (Angie) of Center Point, Iowa. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
