He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Bartel and Ruth Bartel; his parents-in-law, Chester and Irene Barr; and his brother-in-law Bob Barr.
He is survived by: his wife Elaine C. Barr of Kellogg; his children, Christine Downey (Brian) of Springfield, Terri Fenske (T. J.) of Bangkok, Thailand, Daniel Bartel (Karen) of Shawnee and Michael Bartel (Kalee) of Newport News, Virginia; his grandchildren, Melanie, Nolan, Luke, John, Brynne, Jameson, Maverick, Olivia, Violet, Ethan and Lydia; his siblings, John Bartel (Henni) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Susan Zeige (Bill) of Grand Rapids and Joanne Kruse (Dennis) of Mequon, Wisconsin; and his friends, Bob and Elaine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the LCMS Board for International Mission, Park View Lutheran Church, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
