He is survived by: his wife Shirley (Ernzen); his children, Jason Burds (Jennifer) of Peosta, Jeremy Burds (Tracy) of Central City, Kelli Weland (Kurt) of Dubuque and Justin Burds of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Alex, Max, Luke, Corey, Helen, Juliana, Ethan, Eliza, Patrick and Charlie; his siblings, Gary Burds (Donna) of Peosta, Dennis Burds of Monticello, Sharon Burds of Las Cruces, NM, Deb Burds McDonough of Peosta, Joyce Then (Steven) of Peosta and Vonda Hoffman (Dale) of Peosta; his in-laws, Barb Ernzen of Epworth, Loras Ernzen (Debbie) of Dubuque, Dianne Kamp (Daryl) of Epworth, Terri Daly (Pat) of Farley, Ken Ernzen of Epworth and Karen Kluesner of Marion; his cousin Matthew "Butch" Maas; and his godchildren, Dawn, Samantha, Stephanie, Emily and Mitch. He is also survived by cousins, and dear friends.
A prayer will be held on Sunday, October 25th 2026 at 1:30 PM at the Reiff Funeral Home (894 Peosta St, Peosta, IA 52068). Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 25th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Monday, October 26th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (241 Peosta St, Peosta, IA 52068).
