He was predeceased by: his parents, Norbert Engler and Marie Engler (Unash); his daughters, Sue Wendt and Carol Engler; and his brother Leo Engler.
He is survived by: his children, Steve Engler (Vicki) of Bettendorf, Bob Engler (Rita) of Urbandale, Mariann Ryan (Jon) of Cedar Rapids and Christopher Engler of Marshalltown; and his siblings, Joyce Hladek of Surprise, Kay Walsh of Clive and Bob Engler (Carol Nilles) of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
