With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Marvin Lawrence Simon of Riverside, Iowa, who passed away on October 30, 2025 at the age of 92. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Ferdinand Simon and Velma Simon; his siblings, Lucille Sojka, Vincent, Paul, Francis and Robert Simon; and his great grandchild Kohen James Cole.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine Mellecker of Joseph's Catholic Church; his children, Leon (Lauri) of Riverside, Louella Schneider (James) of Riverside, Beverly Schneider (Rich) of Riverside, Anita Becker (Steve) of Iowa City, Eileen Bergan (Tom) of Edgewood, Carla Lloyd (Chad) of Cedar Rapids, Wanda Broeker (Brent) of Mt. Pleasant and Rita Hamers (Steve) of Ames; and his siblings, Carol Lynch and Richard Simon. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A rosary was held on Tuesday, November 4th 2025 from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Holy (51 St Mary's St, Riverside, IA 52327). Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 4th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location. A Mass was held on Wednesday, November 5th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for St. Mary's Catholic Church.
