With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Lucille Smit of Rock Rapids, Iowa, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on June 29, 2025 at the age of 93. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Lucille Smit to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Louie Peters and Dena Peters (Stubbe); her husbands, Alfred Hilbrands and Donald Smit of Hull; her sons, Curtis and Elton; her granddaughter Kirsten Schellin; and her great grandchild Trey Gacke.
She is survived by: her children, Dale, Milt, Kent (Carla), Jason (Dawn), Glenda Schellin (Roger) and Judy Gacke (Joe); her siblings-in-law, Stanley Hilbrands (Erma) and Hilda Hilbrands; her in-laws, Fred and Tena Hilbrands; her siblings, John (Esther), Pete (Kathryn), Ray (Tille), Merlin (Dixie), Jennie Boomgaarden (Jake), Tressa Henrichs (Wesley), Darlene Nagel (Lendert) and Beverly Sholberg (Gordon); and her in-laws, Abe Hilbrands (Dorothy), Jennie TenBraak (Henry), Harvey Hilbrands and Vera Teunissen (Bert).
A burial will be held on Saturday, July 5th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Hope Reformed Cemetery (2251 Jay Ave, George, IA 51237). Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 5th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First Reformed Church (512 S Union St, Rock Rapids, IA 51246). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 5th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
Family will direct memorials to Avera Hospice.
