It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sonia Kerns of Rockwell City, Iowa, who passed away on June 17, 2025, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Franklin Buckmaster and Louise Buckmaster Mapes (Pearson); her grandson Jacy McAlexander; her stepfather Merle Mapes; and her stepbrother Merle Mapes, Jr..
She is survived by: her daughters, Kerri McAlexander (Earl) of Rockwell City and Kristen Wheeler (Whit) of Arlington, VA; her grandchildren, Brittany Hemesath (Daniel), Jacob Wheeler and Sarah Wheeler; her brother Lee Mapes of Louisville, TN.; and her former husband John Kerns.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
