She was predeceased by: her parents, Everette McKay and Halleen McKay (DeWolf); her brother Roger; her nephew Kevin Trenary; and her brother-in-law John Guffey.

She is survived by: her siblings, Mildred Guffey of Carlisle, Ronny McKay (Patty) of Chariton and Marilyn Trenary (Butch Vanderpool) of Chariton; her nieces and nephews, Dennis Guffey (Dora), Michael Guffey (Linda), Dianna Abrahamson (Kirk), Susan Gustafson (Gregg) and Brian Trenary (Karla); her great-nieces and great-nephews, Alyssa Hernandez (Josh), Laney, Kylie Abrahamson, Nate Guffey, Grant Gustafson (Madeline), Ryan Gustafson (Elsie), Mackenzie Gustafson (Chris), Brady Trenary (Ashley) and Turner Trenary; Lucy, Lilly Trenary, Lilah Hernandez, Huxon and Gates Gustafson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association in Rita's name.
