He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Kalmes and Stella Kalmes (Frantzen); his wife Helen Ploessl; his daughter Ann; his siblings, Harold Kalmes (Marie), Mariela Berthel (Loras), Bert Kalmes (Mary) and Rosella Gibbs (Lloyd); and his in-laws, Sylvester Ploessl, Cy Ploessl, Judy Nemmers and Art Ploessl (Rosalie).
He is survived by: his children, Mike Kalmes, James "Gomer" Kalmes (Lori), John Kalmes (Lou Ann), Brian "Pee Wee" Kalmes (Barb) and Jodi Hingtgen (Willie); and his in-laws, Ruth Ambrosy, Mary Lou Heinricy, Larry Ploessl (Linda), Marilyn Ploessl and Wilma Ploessl. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
