She was predeceased by: her parents, Joel Howard and May Albertine Garretson. She is survived by: her husband Judge Harlan W. Bainter; her children, Stephany Carrillo (Pete) of Iowa City, IA, Seleta Bainter (Jeff Thomas) of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Bill Bainter (Shari) of Reno, NV; her grandchildren, Will Carrillo (Kacey) of Winston-Salem, NC, Alex Carrillo (Shannon) of Iowa City, IA, Josie Thomas (Tyler Moeller) of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Nella Locker (Will) of Des Moines, IA, Kara Warren (Jake) of Reno, NV and Ryan Bainter of Laramie, WY; her great grandchildren, Violet, Benjamin, Isabel and Emily Carrillo; her grandsons, Leo, Hugo, Otto Moeller, Sebastian Locker and Peter Warren; and her sister-in-law Enolia Branstad (Wing).
Memorial contributions in Josie's honor may be made to Salem East Cemetery or Salem Fire and Rescue.
