He was predeceased by : his parents, John Barkela and Clara Barkela. He is survived by : his wife Julie Rust; his children, Chad Barkela (Deborah) of Sheffield and Jenny Reicks (Trent) of Ankeny, Iowa; his grandsons, Brady Barkela, Briley Barkela, Blake Barkela, Tyler Reicks and Owen Reicks; his sisters, Marilyn Grarup (Eldon) of Sheffield and Nancy Umsted (Richard) of Denver, Colorado; and his siblings-in-law, Annette Lohrbach (Justin), Ron Rust (Diane) and Martin Rust.
