He was predeceased by : his parents, John Kooi and Gertie Kooi (Vander Lugt); his son-in-law Jerry Keene; his grandson Kyle Hulstein; his siblings, Dreaka Van Ballegooyen (Hank), Grace Harthoorn (Cornie), Randall Kooi (Mary) and Pete Kooi; his parents-in-law, Theodore Sr. and Alice Kaemingk; and his in-laws, Arnold Kaemingk (Helen), Harold Kaemingk, Tuni Kaemingk, Wilemina Schuiteman (Arvin) and Theodore Kaemingk (Ravina).

He is survived by : his wife Gertrude Mohlenkamp (Vander Stoep); his children, Vivian Johnson (Charles) of North Muskegon, MI, Sheryl Hulstein (Kelly) of Sioux Center, IA, Keith Kooi (Karla) of Sioux Center, IA, Cinda Vande Griend (Randy) of Rock Valley, IA, Myron Kooi of Norfolk, NE, Kevin Kooi (Mauritia) of Montague, MI, Sheresa Nieuwsma (Mike) of Prior Lake, MN and John Kooi (Susan) of Inwood, IA; his brother Elmer Kooi (Karen); and his siblings-in-law, Nella Kooi, Edwin "Bud" Vander Stoep (Norene), Harold Vander Stoep (Bernice) and Kathleen Steenhoven. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the Kooi family prefer memorials to be directed to the Sioux City Gospel Mission or Sioux Center Hospice.
