He was predeceased by: his parents, Vincent Engel and Arlene Engel (Gilmer); his father-in-law Howard Sitzmann; his brother William "Bill" Engel; and his nephews, Matt Dynan, Brandon Sitzmann, Mark Engel and Andy Sickman.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Sitzmann of Le Mars; his son Ben Engel (Andrea Rosella); his grandchildren, Zea and Zara; his daughter Nicki Sorenson (Quentin) of Johnston; his grandchildren, Gavin (Lily), Cael and Jude; his mother-in-law Rita Sitzmann of Le Mars; his siblings, Marilyn Sickman (Mark) of San Diego, Jim Engel (Donna) of Le Mars, Doug Engel (Lisa) of Le Mars and JoAnn Nelson (Pat) of Phoenix, Arizona; and his siblings-in-law, Dixie Engel, Pam Dynan (Dan), Jack Sitzmann (Doris), Ron Sitzmann (Shari), Jeff Sitzmann (Phyllis), Barb Sitzmann and Dan Sitzmann (Toni). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
