She was predeceased by : her parents, Dwight Fernau and Josie Fernau (Ingham); her husband Donald Smith; and her sister Elizabeth Brugman. She is survived by : her sons, Byron Paul of Sioux Falls, SD and Drake Paul (Katie) of Longmont, CO; her grandchildren, Tyler, Jonathan and Kylie; and her great grandchildren, Justin and Maggie. She is also survived by other relatives; and many friends.
