He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence O'Brien and Eva O'Brien (McGinnis); and his siblings, Don, Leo O'Brien and Marie Schertz.

He is survived by: his wife Thelma Cupp; his children, Lisa Waddell (Dennis), Vince O'Brien (Christy) and Kerry McFarland (Tom); his grandchildren, Alyssa Waddell (Rick Good), Macinzie McFarland (Jeremy Gilbert), Megan Davidson (Tanner), Abby Bean (Tanner), Emily O'Brien (Tim Meyer), Sadie McFarland (Zebin Kester) and Lauren O'Brien; his great grandchildren, Riley, Madison, Mason (Maiya Schminkey), Easton, Eli, Ian and Casen; and his brother Chuck O'Brien. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family.
