He was predeceased by: his wife Peggy Jo Garst; his parents, Elmer Wesley Garst and Helen Elizabeth Britt Garst; his aunt Ruth Craig; his daughter Colleen Irene Farwell; and his great grandchild Ava Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Kathy Deitchler (Aaron) of Silver City, Cheryl Kelsay (Danny) of Hartville, Missouri, Rick Moore (Laura) of Council Bluffs and Paul Garst of Pennsylvania; and his grandchildren, Dustin, Tara, Amanda, Rachel, Nikki, Ian and Miranda.
