He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Frank and Katherine Eve Ternus (Schaecher); his brothers, David, James and Gary Ternus; and his siblings-in-law, Karl Wieditz, James Surber, Roger Geater, Donald Mathes, Ronald Long, Shirlene, Alene, Ronette Ternus and Mary Parmley.

He is survived by: his wife Constance Long of Tama; his sons, Scott Ternus (Virginia Veruette) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Troy Ternus of Tama, Brett Ternus (Pamela) of Orlando, FL and Jon Ternus (Melinda) of Leawood, KS; his grandchildren, Christian (Kate Murphy), Brendan, Katrina, Gretchen and Owen Ternus; his siblings, Caroll Ternus (Marlene) of Van Horne, Lyle Ternus (Joanne) of Dysart, Steve Ternus of Shellsburg, Connie Smith (Don) of Johnston, Diane Wieditz of Urbandale, Julie Staley (Darrell) of Nevada, Barbara Mathes (Doug Wiesner), Linda of Ames and Mary Geater of Vinton; and his sisters-in-law, Sandra Ternus of Sunrise, FL and Kaye Ternus of Vinton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
