She was predeceased by: her parents, Harry N. Thovson and Loretta J. Thovson (Groath); her husbands, Stanford Monson and Duane Higgins; her stepgrandsons, Nathan Higgins and Chris Higgins; her brother Robert; her sister-in-law Arlene Thovson; her sister DeEtta; her brother-in-law Lawrence Twedt; and her pet Maggi.
She is survived by: her daughter Susan Mead (Tom) of Minneapolis, MN; her stepchildren, Michal Higgins of Leland, Patrick Higgins of Buffalo Center, Kathy Dautremont of Cedar Rapids, Brian Higgins (Vicki) of Clear Lake, Debra Steinfeldt of Albert Lea, MN and Dennis Higgins (Ranee) of Titonka; and her sister-in-law Kathy Steiert of Osage, IA. She is also survived by 10 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 7th 2026 at 11:30 AM at the Oakland Cemetery (1445 US-69, Forest City, IA 50436). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 7th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Buffalo Creek Activity Center (543 Dieckman St, Titonka, IA 50480).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the North Iowa Humane Society in Arlis' name.
