With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Garland Richard Hopper of Toledo, Iowa, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. He was predeceased by: his parents, Marshall Hopper and Vera Hopper (Schrader); his wives, Betty Hopper of Greensboro, NC and Evelyn VanSyoc; his daughter Susan Hopper; his grandson Thomas Hopper; his siblings, Paul Hopper, Dorothy Ohman, Phyllis McComas and Arlene Gerlach; and his stepson Britt VanSyoc.
He is survived by: his children, Timothy Hopper (Mo), Terry Hopper (Jeannie), Richard F. Hopper (Jodi) of Toledo and Sandra Kleine (Donovan); his stepson Scott VanSyoc (Sheryl); his grandchildren, Brandon Hopper, Kiley Tritz, Erik Hopper, Krista Sullivan, Mathew Hopper, Julia Welker, Richard H. Hopper, Emily Hopper, Nyle Kleine and Jamie VanSyoc; and his great grandchildren, Arlo, Aaron Hopper, Aubrie, Landen, Ryder, Mila Tritz, Alina, Eliana, Norah Hopper, Luke, Miles Sullivan, Kasen, Kinslee, Kyla Hopper, Ryker Kleine and AJ VanSyoc. He is also survived by his five children, ten grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1st 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home (209 E 7th St, Tama, IA 52339). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2nd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
A memorial fund will be established.
