She was predeceased by: her parents, Norbert Peter Schares and Leona Anna Schares (Meier); her siblings, George Schares, Thomas Schares, Carol Brandt and Dorothy Adamson; and her father-in-law Cletus Steffen.

She is survived by: her husband Kevin Steffen of Vinton; her children, Zach Steffen (Kellie) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jill Scanlan (Steve) of Beaman and Abby Berry (Matt) of Vinton; her grandchildren, Dakota, Josie, Tanner, Ethan, Liam, Mieka and Arya; her siblings, Michael Schares (Amanda) of Dunkerton, Andrew Schares (Donna) of Dunkerton, Jeff Schares (Debbie) of Dunkerton, Bill Schares of Dunkerton, Patricia Ehr of Cedar Falls, JoAnn Weber (Bill) of Independence, Marilyn Steggall of Fairbank, Marge Grady (Rich) of Dunkerton and Joyce Rubalcaba of Stockton, California; and her mother-in-law Margaret Steffen of Dunkerton, Iowa.
