He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel T. Murphy and Blanche J. Murphy (Soukup); his grandson Ethan Roy Murphy; his son-in-law Tom Johnson; and his siblings-in-law, Karen Murphy, Beverly Murphy and John Young.
He is survived by: his wife Sara K. Young of Washington, Iowa; his children, Jeff Murphy (Carin) of Ankeny, Iowa, Robb Murphy of Kansas City, Kansas, Rick Murphy of Washington, Iowa, Mindi Johnson of Olathe, Kansas, John Murphy (Shawnna) of Huxley, Iowa and Mike Murphy (Marcy) of Brighton, Iowa; his siblings, Gary Murphy of Washington, Tom Murphy of Clinton, Iowa and Judy Murphy (Tom) of Washington, Iowa; and his sister-in-law Marty Young of Washington, Iowa.. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, July 27th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the United Methodist Church (206 W 2nd St, Washington, IA 52353). A celebration of life was held on Monday, July 28th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Monday, July 28th 2025 at the Elm Grove Cemetery (1101 S Ave E, Washington, IA 52353).
