She was predeceased by: her parents, Elmer Louth and Florence Louth (Anderson); her parents-in-law, Harold and Joella Gerdes; her former husband Donald Powell; her son David Powell; and her stepson Rob Gerdes.
She is survived by: her husband Bill Gerdes of Washington, Iowa; her daughter Erica Venema (Grant) of Geneseo, Illinois; her stepchildren, Lori Hitchcock (Barry) of Athens, Georgia and Randy Powell (Sally) of Akron, Ohio; her siblings, Ruthie Louth of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Terri Grover (Greg) of De Soto, Iowa and Wilson Louth (Laurie) of Dickson, Tennessee; and her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Powell of Moline, Illinois. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She taught knitting classes at Lincoln Elementary School and, since COVID, had crocheted more than 130 afghans for others.
