He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Mabb and Lulu Bernau (Tift); his former wife Kay Manwiller; his sister Rachel Meyer; his half-sister Virginia Harkin; and his stepsister Jeanette Briggs.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Bernau of Washington, Iowa; his children, Tom Bernau of Des Moines, Iowa, John Bernau (Amy) of Manchester, Iowa and Heidi Wagler (Russ) of Wayland, Iowa; and his grandchildren, Will Bernau, Coco Bernau, Cole Stephens (Jordan), Nolan Bernau, Nick Bernau, Josie Wagler, Gaby Kuethe (Aaron) and Sam Wagler.
