He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Schmidt and Marie Steinbroon Schmidt; his siblings, Ted Schmidt, Margaret Moldenhauer, Mildred Hesse and Frieda Traetow; and his half-sister Agnes Rikkels.
He is survived by: his wife Beverly Leonhart of Waterloo; his son Kirk Schmidt (Heather) of Cedar Rapids; and his siblings, Rev. Harold Schmidt of Omaha, Rev. Lawrence Schmidt (Jane) of Cedar Rapids, Edith Armbrecht of Marshalltown, Doris Camann of Clintonville, WI and Mary Brooke (Jim) of Machesney Park, IL. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
