She was predeceased by: her parents, Sam Smith and Katie Pugh Smith; her son Gregory Howze; her grandchildren, Rod Howze, Jr. and Katie Corynne; her great grandchildren, Gabriel Carter and Maleeya Love; and her siblings, Minnie Smith, Ollie Cox, Lula Turner, Dean Calhoun, Nathan, Condie, Cleveland and Wesley Smith.
She is survived by: her former husband John Howze; her children, Charles Howze (Gemma) of Omaha, NE, Reginald Howze of Coffeeville, AL, Janet Elaine Brown (Bernard) of Clinton, MD, Sheila Howze of Waterloo, Steven Howze of Ft. Worth, TX and Rod Howze (Tameca) of Newton, IA; her sister Melva Dean of Mobile, AL; and her friends, Rhonda Hodges of Waterloo and Karen Moore of Waterloo. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.
