He is survived by: his wife Carol Coyne Segebarth of Waterloo; his children, Tami Wylie (William) of LaPorte City and Troy Bartels of Waterloo; his stepchildren, Eric Coyne of Iowa City and Amy Pavlek of Waterloo; his grandchildren, Hope Runge, Haley Gehrke (Noah), Chase Runge, Caden Runge (Leonie Sabanagic), Nicholas Bartels (Karina) and Alex Bartels (Brittany Dixon); his great grandchildren, Naomi, Ophelia, Gideon, Wrenley Bartels, Emory, Maci and Boston Gehrke; his stepgrandchildren, Ben, Caitlyn Wylie, Mia and Ryan Pavlek; and his siblings, Allen Bartels of Waterloo, Wayne Bartels of Phoenix, Gary Bartels (Marcia) of Mingo and Carolyn McAnally (Dave) of La Vista. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 1st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Trinity American Lutheran Church (605 W 4th St, Waterloo, IA 50702). A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 at 11:45 AM at the Memoires Cemetery (3669 Logan Ave, Waterloo, IA 50703).
