He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon D. Shafer and Ruby C. Shafer (Jensen); and his brothers, Doug Shafer and Steve Shafer. He is survived by: his siblings, Pat Dove (Lloyd), Jack Shafer (Joan), Robert Shafer (Roxy) of Cedar Falls and Ronald Shafer (Kay) of Arizona. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
