He was predeceased by: his mother Laura "Louise" Brandes (McLaughlin); his wife LaNell Brandes; his father Martin Brandes; his brother Jim Brandes; and his nephew Mike Brandes.
He is survived by: his daughters, Alyssa Hamlyn (Brad), Linda Brandes (Jeremy) and Dawn VanHeiden; his grandchildren, Isabelle, Darren, Joshua and Caleb; his nephew Matthew Brandes (Jeanne); and his nieces, Kate, Martha and Laura.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Cederloo Church of Christ (3110 Loma St, Cedar Falls, IA 50613). A graveside service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Fairview Cemetery (1350 W 12th St, Cedar Falls, IA 50613).
