She was predeceased by: her parents, Jerome Lampert and Vera Lampert (Gray); her husband Edwin Schmit; her stepmother Alice Lampert; her son Tim Schmit; her siblings, Donna Hoffer and William Lampert; her grandsons, Tanner Schmit, Brock Schmit and Noah Baker; her half-sister Judy James; her stepbrother Wayne Douglas; and her daughters-in-law, Jan Schmit and Sue Schmit.
She is survived by: her children, Irvin Schmit (Nancy) of Des Moines, Michael Schmit of Tampa, Fla., Bob Schmit of Waterloo, Jeff "Duff" Schmit (Pam) of Waterloo, Chris Schmit of Boston, Mass., Peggy Schadle (Tom) of Broken Arrow, Okla, Sue Baker (Michael) of Souix City and Patsy Tragord (Emmett) of Evansdale. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
A rosary was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 at 3:30 PM at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service (400 South St, Waterloo, IA 50701). Visitation was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, September 19th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (650 Stephan Ave, Waterloo, IA 50701).
