He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert "Dewey" Gesie and Claire O'Rourke Gesie; his sisters, Jenny Gesie and Patty Holten; and his father-in-law Kenny Henniges.

He is survived by: his wife Julie Henniges-Lang; his children, Sara Gesie-Peace (Mike), Amanda Hilton (Brian), Tim Gesie (Jordan), Aleshia Lamos (Mark) and Whitney Brown (Joey); his grandchildren, Olivia, Gavin, Brody, Riley, Camrynn, Ava, Logan, Mila and Soren; his siblings, Tina Haag (Tom) of Monticello, Mick Gesie (Chris) of Solon and Rob Gesie (Diane) of Monticello; his mother-in-law Jan Henniges; his siblings-in-law, Randy Henniges, Jean Allen and Jill Henniges (Pete); his uncle Gene; and his aunts, Lanita Gesie and Regina Schmidt of Dubuque. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the following organizations: Waterloo Fire Rescue Honor Guard, Waterloo Fire Rescue Scholarship Fund, Cedar Valley Hospice, and Carroll County Mental Health Advocates, Carrollton, Georgia Rick "Goose" Gesie (71) of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on October 11th at home, surrounded by family.
