He was predeceased by: his parents, Kurt Lear and Lois Webb Lear; his daughter Genevieve Glenn; and his brothers, Geoffrey, Erich and Karl Lear.

He is survived by: his wife Lucinda Diggins of Waterloo; his children, W. Erich Lear (Julie) of Marion and Nathaneal Lear (Bethani) of Winchester, VA; his son-in-law Drew Glenn of Waterloo; and his grandchildren, Brooklyn Lear, Zach Glenn, Sydney Lear, Madison Lear, Colton Lear, Zoey Lear, Waylon Taylor, Jackson Lear and Emerlyn Lear. He is also survived by many other family members and friends.
