We announce the death of Velma Derby of Waukee, Iowa, born in Albia, Iowa, who passed away on August 14, 2026, at the age of 96. Velma will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Pauline Stewart and Alva Stewart; her sisters, Lodema, Charlotte Stewart and Viola Wales; and her sons, Mark and Darrell Derby.
She is survived by: her son Bryan Derby (Laura) of Des Moines; her granddaughter Alyssa Turnquist (Evan Summa) of Johnston; and her great grandchildren, Elijah Holt of Johnston and Asher Summa of Johnston.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Welcome Home Soldier Monument in Albia, Iowa.
