He was predeceased by: his parents, Dale Eugene and Lucille Mae Shurtleff (Heidebrink); his parents-in-law, LeRoy and Frances Bollman; and his grandchildren, Shawn Hughes, Jr. and Mikayla Archuleta.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Shurtleff of Waukon; his children, Shawn Hughes, Scott Hughes (Crystal) and Samanthia Jefferson (Ken); and his grandchildren, Paige, Leah, Bailey, Levi, Destiny, LeNae, Caleb, Christian, Jordan, Dakota, Blake, Ethan, Trinity, Connor, Mika, Mitchel and Timothy. He is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren.
