He was predeceased by: his parents, Harlan Zittergruen and Dorothy Zittergruen (Mueller); his son Scott; his granddaughter Kylee Zittergruen; and his father-in-law Donald Barron.

He is survived by: his wife Jenny Barron of Waverly; his children, Jeff Zittergruen (Chelsey) of Atkins, Katie Henriksen (Ryan) of Waverly, Thomas Zittergruen (Kaylin) of Boulder and Michael Zittergruen of Waterloo; his grandchildren, Kinley, Cooper, Coen Zittergruen and Elyse Henriksen; his brothers, Brian Zittergruen (Linda) of Muskego, John Zittergruen (Bonnie) of Urbandale, Mark Zittergruen (Maureen) of Cedar Rapids and David Zittergruen (Nancy) of Victoria; his mother-in-law Marilyn Barron of Guttenberg; and his siblings-in-law, Paul Barron (Marlene Israel) of Madison, John Barron (Sandy) of Guttenberg and Susan Covington (Al) of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Benton Scholarship Foundation.
