He was predeceased by : his parents, Emil and Linda (Schwebke); and his siblings, Eugene Pagel, Laverne Pagel (Judy), Virlin Pagel, Virgene Stober (Clarence), Audrey Odland (Arnie) and Virlaine Gangstead (Don).

He is survived by : his wife Kathy Mayes of Peter's Lutheran Church; his children, Denise Vulgamott (John) of Webster City, Deb Pagel of Webster City and Darryl Pagel (Julie) of Webster City; his grandchildren, Hailee Pittman (Andy), Kayla Fitzgerald (Josh), Melissa Roberts (Jim), Emma Breon, Bryce Vulgamott (Andrea) and Sarah Holm (Adam); his brother Lyle Pagel (Mary Jo) of Ohio; and his sister-in-law Virginia Pagel of Fort Dodge. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
