She was predeceased by: her parents, Sherman Phillips and Eva Phillips (Cox); her husband Ronald "Bill" Butler; her siblings, Robert Phillips (Bonnie), David Phillips (Carol), Joe Phillips (Wanda) and Pat Shannon; her brother-in-law Bob Sommerfeld; and her son Danny Kimmitt.
She is survived by: her former husband Richard Kimmitt; her children, Rick Kimmitt (Diane) and Brenda Wyss (Tom); her grandchildren, Amber (TJ), Eric (Fran), Nicole (Dan), Jared (Hannah) and Ashley (Kyle); and her sister Jane Sommerfeld.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, May 24th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Centenary Morning Sun Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorials in Retha's name may be made to the Southeast Iowa Hospice House or to the Morning Sun Ambulance Department.
