She was predeceased by: her parents, Bill Brown and Kathryn Brown (Foss); and her husband John Kates. She is survived by: her children, Robert Kates of Texas and Karen; her son-in-law Bill Brookhart of Van Meter; her grandchildren, Kasey Vermillion, Jennifer Prill (Matt), Daniel Brookhart (Delaney), Rachel Brookhart and Jordan Kates; her great grandchildren, Peter, Elijah, William Vermillion, Emersyn and Beckett Brookhart; her brother Dr. Bob Brown; and her sister-in-law Sandy Brown. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
