He was predeceased by : his parents, Roy Nelson and Beryl Nelson (Brown); his wife Donna Nelson (McKinney); his brother Floyd Hodkinson; and his sister-in-law Claudette Hodkinson.

He is survived by : his children, Kimberly Nordhagen (Chris) of Indianola, Pamela Burns (Theron) of Des Moines, Thomas Nelson (Tami) of Des Moines and James Nelson of Des Moines. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, and many other family members.
