He was predeceased by: his parents, Myrtle E. Harvey and Clarence J. Sweem; his wife Carol Bortz; his grandson Alexander Sweem; and his siblings, Billy, Charles, Robert, Junior, Harvey, Francis Harvey and Mabel.
He is survived by: his children, Cyndi Miller (Jim), Steve Sweem (Sue) and Lori Stevenson (Chad); his grandchildren, Brian Miller (Tonya), Matt Miller, Andy Stevenson (Sarah), Molly Stevenson, Cari Stubbs (Trey), Ryan Stevenson, Daniel Miller, Tyler Sweem (Bailey) and Kristin Sweem (Mark); and his great grandchildren, James, Olivia Miller, Calvin, Niall and Willow Stubbs.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at 9225 Cascade Ave, West Des Moines, IA 50265. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the same location.
