Ruth left this world on October 8, 2025 at the age of 101, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. She was predeceased by: her husband Dr. Joseph R. McNerney; her sons, Richard and Edwin McNerney; her children-in-law, Jack Byrd, Mike Curran and Judy NcNerney; and her grandson Timothy McNerney.

She is survived by: her children, Mary Byrd (Jack), Dr. Joseph P. McNerney (Jane), David McNerney, Dr. Robert McNerney, Beth Thayer (Brad), Daniel McNerney (Lisa), Sarah McNerney, Bridget McNerney and Angela McNerney (Mike Magner). She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the McLaren's Resthaven Chapel & Mortuary (801 19th St, West Des Moines, IA 50265). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 18th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the same location. A committal service will be held on Saturday, October 18th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Woodland Cemetery (2019 Woodland Ave, Des Moines, IA 50312). A reception will be held on Saturday, October 18th 2025 at 5:00 PM at the Eddie Davis Community Center (1312 Maple St, West Des Moines, IA 50265).

Memorial donations may be made in Ruth's name to the Eddie Davis Community Center.
