He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Blindt and Ida Blindt (Krittenbrink); his former wife Vera Jane Martin; his brothers, Adrian, Roland, Delbert, Richard and Kenneth; and his sisters-in-law, Francis and Mary Lou.
He is survived by: his wife Anita Freesmeier; his children, Edward J. Blindt, Jr. (Kathy) of West Point, Debbie Blindt of Fort Madison and Linda Mann (Tom) of Monmouth, Illinois; his stepchildren, Lois Long (Kevin), Lori Rothstein (Peter) of New York, Brad Freesmeier (Julie) of West Point and Joe Freesmeier (Cathy) of St. Mary's Point, Minnesota; his sister LaVerne Barlett (Tom) of Green Valley, Arizona; and his sisters-in-law, Margie, Kathy and Bertha Blindt.
Visitation was held on Monday, May 19th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Schmitz Funeral Homes - West Point (502 Avenue E, West Point, IA 52656). A rosary was held on Monday, May 19th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the same location. A wake was held on Monday, May 19th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, May 20th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church (119 4th St, West Point, IA 52656).
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials to the West Point American Legion or Calvary Cemetery.
