He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Sanford and Frances Burwinkel Sanford; his brother Ron Sanford (Ann); his siblings-in-law, W. J. Riepe, Charles Klesener, Dennis Klesener, Dale Pollmeier and Roberta Klesener; and his sibling's children, Randy, Patty and Julia.
He is survived by: his wife Jane Sanford of Wever; his daughters, Cindy Sanford of Henderson, NV and Jenny Castán (David) of Ft. Madison; his grandsons, David A. and Niklas Castán; his sisters, Judy Feehan (Steve) of Salem and Linda Pollmeier of Ft. Madison; and his siblings-in-law, Dolores Riepe of Cedar Rapids, Barbara Klesener of Ft. Madison and Tom Klesener (Sandra) of West Point. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held on Wednesday, November 5th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the King-Lynk Funeral Home (3507 Avenue L, Fort Madison, IA 52627). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 5th 2025 from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 6th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Church.
