He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Robert and Bertha Olivia Blythe (Von Schrader); his siblings, Frederick Blythe (Betty), Jane Barton (Derek) and Imogene Crebbin (Ken); and his sister-in-law Linda Pollman (Art).

He is survived by: his wife Judy; his children, Bruce Blythe (Kate) of Elmhurst, IL, Verda Blythe (Kenneth Kavajecz) of Madison, WI and Vanessa Doty (Mike) of Grinnell; and his grandchildren, Megan Doty, Will Doty, Derek Doty, Paige Blythe and Ellie Blythe. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established for the First Presbyterian Church or St. Francis Manor Foundation.
