He was predeceased by: his parents, Hermann Steinkamp and Luise Steinkamp; and his sister Margarethe Erickson. He is survived by: his wife Madeline Heuer; his children, Melanie Mary (Todd) and Laurel Flynn (Derek); and his grandchildren, Cody Flynn, Chad Flynn, Megan Bowers (Joe) and Madi Mary. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St John Lutheran Church.
