He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Harkness and Marcia Barzee Harkness; his stepdaughter Patty Cortez; and his siblings, Patty Raymond, Wayne Harkness, Dorothy Messick and Myles Harkness.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Harkness; his brother Robert Harkness; his son Travis Harkness; his stepchildren, Ricky Cortez, Richard Cortez and Pam Cortez; and his adoptive son Bradley Wright. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
