He was predeceased by: his father Barney Byers; his stepmother LaVon Byers; and his sister Darolyn "Dee" Krupa. He is survived by: his mother Darliss Byers (Pleger); his wife Maxine Byers; his sisters, Barbara Scott, Karey Jensen (Mike) and Marla Cummings (Bryan); his stepsister Bonney Neville; his children, Chas Johnston (Don), Carson Byers (Jade), Crystal Byers (David) and Nicole Short (Anthony); and his grandchildren, Jessica, Ashleigh, McKenzi, Dominic, Hailey, Hannah, Ben, Landon, Maliyah, Jacob, Shawn, Kyra, Cassie, Kale, Olivia and Delman. He is also survived by his seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
