He was predeceased by: his parents, William Edward Nearing and Mae Hakola Nearing; his son Brett; and his siblings, Maxine Rantannen, Jennie Stout, Pearl Wilson, Mary McCloud, Deanie Windedahl, Elva Meredith, Bruce Nearing, Bucko Nearing and Billy Nearing.
He is survived by: his wife Sandy; his son Michael Nearing (Terri) of Spokane; his grandchildren, Trevor Nearing (Ariel) of Spokane and Summer Bates (Wallace) of Flower Mound, Texas; his great grandchildren, Willow, River Nearing of Spokane, Halle and Wallace Bates of Flower Mound, Texas; and his brother Jerry Nearing (Patricia) of Pinehurst, Idaho. He is also survived by many friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He survived severe burns to most of his back, neck, and lower body, an aneurism while dragging an elk out of the forest, 135 days of hospitalization with Covid Pneumonia, injuries to his face and hands from a blown-up rifle, a smashed hand from an injury at work, and more recently, multiple age-related injuries and complications.
