It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sandra Mauchley (Moscow, Idaho), born in Spokane, Washington, who passed away on May 17, 2020, at the age of 80, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Alvan Backman and Edith Backman; her former husband Richard Hahn; her husband Jay Mauchley; her children, Laurel Zimmer (Fred) of Seattle, WA, Debbi Hahn (Kent Nelson) of Coeur and David Mauchley (Sara Mazzoni) of Seattle, WA.; and her grandchildren, Karina, Jordan, Andrew, Matthew, Gabriel and Alexander of Seattle, WA. She was also cherished by three siblings.

Our family asks that charitable contributions be made to the University Of Idaho School Of Music Piano Scholarship Endowment; the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre; or the U of I Pritchard Art Gallery in Moscow, ID.

“Sandy was one of the remarkable people I got to see once a year, as I attended Interlochen Chamber Music Camp. What a beautiful soul she was, kind, encouraging. She had a great love of music and an infectious, positive approach to finding nuggets of musical gold. She noticed the small things, and brought out the good in each person. Sandy was just a joy to be around. I know the grief of her family must be immense, and so many others share that grief with you. Vicki Dooman”

“Sandy was so many things to so many people - friend, teacher, mentor... She helped me overcome issues with tension and stage fright in my playing and teaching. Every time there was a big performance coming up - competition or recital - i came to sandy, who would greet me after my 3 hour drive with the bathroom, a hug, and a glass of water, in that order! Then we would get down to business, and she took my playing apart and put it back together in a caring and artistic fashion. Miss her!”
