He was predeceased by: his parents, E. C. "Jack" Gates and Wanda Gates; and his brother Michael Gates. He is survived by: his wife Kathy; his children, Allyson (Jeremy Johnson) and Daniel Gates (Joelle Wymer); and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Greyson Johnson.
